The short version
- We collect your details only when you give them to us, through our newsletter sign-up or our Contact form.
- We count page views to see which pages and times are busiest. We don't use cookies for this, we don't store IP addresses with these counts, and we don't track you across other websites.
- We don't sell your personal information.

What we collect, and why
Newsletter sign-up
When you subscribe, we collect your email address, the page you signed up on, the date and time, and the wording that was shown beside the form at that moment. That wording is our record of what you agreed to. We use your email address to send you the short email we send when we publish something worth your time. We keep it until you unsubscribe.
Contact form
When you send us a message, we collect your name, email address, company (if you add one), the topic you choose, your message, the page you sent it from, and the date and time. We use this to reply to you and to keep a record of the conversation. We keep it for as long as we need it to respond and to work with you, and you can ask us to delete it.
Page views
We count page views on this website to understand which pages and times are busiest. We don't use cookies for this, we don't store IP addresses with these counts, and we don't track you across other sites. For each page that loads, we record:
- the date and time (in Toronto time) and the page that was viewed
- the name of the website you came from, if any (not the full address)
- the type of device you're using: phone, tablet or computer
- a random code that lasts only while your browser tab stays open, so we can tell one visit from another
- campaign tags, if the link you clicked had them (for example, from a newsletter or a social post)
None of this is linked to your name or email address. We don't count visitors whose browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. We keep individual page-view records for up to 25 months.
Cookies and technical logs
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies on this website. Like most websites, the servers and services that deliver it may keep standard technical logs, which can include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. We keep these for a limited time and we don't use them to build profiles of visitors.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We use trusted service providers to run this website and to send email, and they handle information on our behalf only so they can provide those services. We may also share information if the law requires us to.
Where it's stored and how we protect it
Sign-ups, enquiries and page-view counts are stored in a database on servers that Think Beyond controls. Access is limited to the people who need it and protected by a password, and the database is backed up regularly. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect what you share with us.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe: use the link in any of our emails, or email us and we'll remove you.
- See, correct or delete: you can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to fix it, or ask us to delete it. We'll respond within 30 days.
- Withdraw consent: you can change your mind at any time. This won't affect anything we did before you asked.
- Page counting: turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser and we won't count your visits.
The rules we follow
We handle personal information in line with Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), and we send email in line with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
Changes to this notice
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
